Things to Do at Secret Beach, Ambergris Caye

Secret Beach is no longer a secret, and for good reason. It sits on the calm, west side of Ambergris Caye, Belize, facing the lagoon instead of the reef. That means shallow turquoise water, light wind, no sargassum problems, and sunsets over an epic beach view. Here’s how to make a full day of it.

How to get to Secret Beach

There is one road in. From San Pedro Town, drive north by golf cart or taxi, take the marked left turn at the gas station toward Secret Beach, and follow the road across the island. Plan on roughly 45 minutes from town.

Tip: cell service at Secret Beach is unreliable. Screenshot your map before you leave town or download offline maps.

1. Work out with an ocean view

Lifting Beach Face Gym is the first gym at Secret Beach and the only outdoor beach gym on Ambergris Caye. Train in the sand with handmade wooden weights, a squat rack, kettlebells, rings, a climbing rope, chin-up bars and more, with the Caribbean in view. Drop in for a day ($30 BZ), get 7 days unlimited ($65 BZ), or join monthly ($85 BZ). Earn your beach drinks first.

2. Wade, float and swim

The water stays shallow far from shore, so you can stand, float or walk out with a drink in hand. It’s one of the calmest swimming spots on the island, and flat water makes it easy for first-time paddleboarders.

3. Beach bars and over-water seating

Secret Beach is lined with beach bars and clubs, many with tables and chairs set right in the water, so you can eat and drink while you soak in the sea. Mistico and the private beach club at Ixchel Wellness Resort are the relaxing places to go if you’re not into loud music and parties.

4. Jet skis and the floating water park

For more action, jet ski rentals operate along the beach, and the Secret Beach Waterpark is a floating obstacle park for all ages.

5. Stay for sunset

Because the beach faces west, the sun sets over the water toward mainland Belize. Time your drive back for after dark only if you’re comfortable on the road.
